Volker Bertelmann (HAUSCHKA) Wins Best Original Score for ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ at 2023 Oscars ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hauschka has been awarded the Oscar for Best Score for his work on the 2022 adaption of the classic anti-war film "All Quiet on the Western Front", based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque. The film, directed by Edward Berger, follows the story of an idealistic young German Paul Bäumer who enlists to the army and soon finds himself exposed to the realities of war, shattering his early hopes of becoming a hero as he does his best to survive.
“Thanks to the Academy for this huge recognition,” Bertelmann began his acceptance speech. “When I was working on the film, I was thinking a couple of times of my mom, because she was telling me every now and then — when you want to change humanity and empathy in the world, you have to start by yourself and your own surroundings. Because you learn by that, and you can show actually… how we all can live together. So by working on a film like that, you always are deeply touched.”
Shoutout to SON LUX who were ALSO nominated, for their score Everything Everywhere All at Once.
